"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
-attributed to Aristotle

Your actions define your identity, whether you're aware of it or not. You have the power to shape your actions and, in turn, shape who you are.

But, who are you, really?

Are you just defined by the roles you play, such as a wife, mother, teacher, or caregiver? No, there is more to it. You are the space between, the observer of your thoughts.

Today, I invite you to delve deeper into this question: Who am I?

Aligning Actions with Identity

In this post, I want to focus on the actions you take day in and day out. When you align your actions with the person you aspire to be, you'll find a clear path to your goals. James Clear's bestselling book, Atomic Habits, delves into this concept in detail (highly recommended reading!). Let's explore the difference between mere wishes and declarations with purpose.

Action-Oriented Identity

Consider these examples: You can say, "I want to be a runner," or you can say, "I am someone who runs three times a week to maintain my cardiovascular health." Similarly, instead of saying, "I'd like to eat more vegetables and drink more water," you can say, "I am a person who adds two or more vegetables to each meal because I value my body and my health."

Notice the contrast? One is a wish lacking substance, while the other is a resolute declaration backed by solid reasoning.

The Power of Intention

Which statement do you think will drive you to follow through and take action? The difference lies in the clarity of intention and purpose.

How do you describe yourself?

Let me share an example from a client I worked with. She struggled for years to accomplish her goals due to a lack of follow-through deeply seeded in past pain. She tried many techniques and for YEARS. However, when she started asking herself every day, "Who do I want to be today?" she gained the strength to tackle previously overwhelming projects.

Overcoming Limiting Beliefs

Developing healthy habits and overcoming self-imposed limitations can be challenging. We often become self-fulfilling prophecies. If we believe we can't touch our toes in yoga, we won't even unroll our mats and try. If we convince ourselves we dislike water, we won't drink enough to experience its health benefits.

What we believe about ourselves dictates our actions, often without us even realizing it. This is why working with a professional to uncover hidden beliefs can be transformative.

Choosing Your Identity

If you want to exercise, choose to be someone who seeks health and embraces movement. If you desire more energy, decide to be a health-conscious individual who fuels their body with vibrant foods. If connecting with your soul is your aim, declare yourself a seeker of spiritual fulfillment, avoiding anything that hinders your connection to a higher power. After making these choices about who you want to be, take intentional steps to plan your actions accordingly.

The Power of Identity and Action

Perhaps you've never considered this perspective before, but now is the time. If you feel stuck or dissatisfied with your life, there may be an underlying identity issue.

Something within you isn't aligned with your desires.

You may find yourself repeatedly procrastinating or giving up. It was only through working with a counselor/coach that I discovered my own hang-ups and limiting beliefs. A coach can provide valuable insights that are often invisible to us.

Consistency and Mental Preparation

Remember, success doesn't come from a single event; it's built on consistent actions day after day, year after year. The preparation and mental decisions we make, whether consciously or not, contribute to our achievements.

I hope you grasp the magnitude of what I'm sharing with you today.

If you're struggling to achieve your goals, it could be because you haven't fully embraced the identity required to pursue them. It may be time to seek guidance and start living life on your terms.

Embrace Your True Self

Decide who you want to become and take actions that align with that identity. Ask yourself, "Is this something that person would do?" Think of an athlete who wins a gold medal not on the day of the event, but through consistent effort and dedication.

You matter. Your life matters. You were designed with a purpose in mind.

Now Is The Time

If you're ready to embark on a transformative journey, I have opened several slots in my calendar this week. We can have a free call via Zoom to discuss your plans, goals, and any obstacles you face. Together, we can determine if we're a good fit to initiate this deep and life-changing work.

Take a leap, just like C did, and witness your life dramatically change for the better. Awaken each day with a sense of purpose and clarity. You have the power to decide who you want to be and create a clear plan to achieve it. You are worth it. Let me help you overcome your limitations and reclaim your vitality.

Lots of Love,

Rachel

She helps women understand that symptoms are signals from the body, and when those signals are supported at the root, calm returns, confidence rebuilds, and it becomes possible to feel at home in your body again.
