The Ultimate Way to Improve Your Happiness and Health is Saying No
Task after task after task after task….. when will we come up for air?
As soon as one thing is finished, more items pop up on the never ending to-do list!!
And, how it is that you can finish a bunch of tasks and still end the day as though nothing was accomplished.
Or, what about when there are so many tasks that binge-watching Netflix seems like a much easier choice.
In the midst of so many things to do, where does your health: mind, body, and spirit fit in?
Is it an afterthought?
Is it something you fit in IF everything else is done?
Is it a good idea that you’ll get around to when things calm down a bit?
Additionally, are you focused on one area of your health and other important parts fall off because you feel there just isn’t time?
Here is The Big 5 Formula for living a healthy and happy life:
👉 Moving and Strengthening Your Body
👉 Proper Nutrition and Hydration
👉 Effective and Restorative Sleep
👉 Stress Management
👉 Mindset and Perspective
After working with clients for the past 15 years, these are the biggest areas that I see make the biggest improvements in overall health and happiness. (That last one is so important that I wrote a book about it! Click here to check it out.)
If even one part of this Big 5 Formula is off, things can start to fall apart.
It can seem like a full time job to focus on our health: mind, body, and spirit.
It does’t have to be so complicated. When I had a health scare not too long ago, the message came to me as clear as day: “It’s doesn’t have to be so hard.”
When I work with clients, we implement simple ways to make each of The Big 5 become integrated into every day. The result: more focus, energy, meaning, love, and joy.
We work backwards and design your day so that each of the Big 5 become more effortless and over time will become simply who you are.
Here is one of the Big Secrets to how this Formula works: you have to be able to say NO to what doesn’t fit in with your plan for a happier and healthier life.
As simple as this seems, many people have a hard time saying “no.”
Here is an example to illustrate the importance of saying “no.”
When we make effective sleep a priority, we might be heading to bed long before others. We might even feel silly or childish for having a “bedtime.”
However, here are just some benefits of effective sleep:
👉 Improves mental health
👉 Improves productivity
👉 Boosts immunity
👉 Easier to maintain a healthy weight
👉 Improves stress management
👉 Improves relationships
👉 Better decision making
👉 Improves mood
AND MORE!
Just think about how the day goes for you when you don’t get enough sleep. I don’t have to hammer this point on further.
Are you getting effective sleep (by effective I mean minimal big wake-ups and overall sleep quality and quantity)?
If you are not, are you doing anything about it?
My point it this: you might have to head to bed earlier and this might require saying “no.”
When you look at The Big 5 Formula, are there other places where saying “no” is the only way to accomplish your Big Outcome for a Happier and Healthier Life?
Here’s another example:
Saying “no” to the things and people that cause your stress to become unmanageable is a MUST. (I will write another blog soon on the damage that stress does to our one precious body.)
Is your health worth it?
I know that saying “no” can be hard and this Big 5 Formula may seem daunting. But, I can promise you that if you take a good hard look at these 5 things, you can see simple ways to begin improving them.
Where do you need to say “no” so you can live better? (Grab your journal and write about this for 2 minutes. You might be surprised at what comes up.)
You don’t have to revamp your whole world. You can take one small thing (from The Big 5 Formula) and start to improve that today. Write it down now.
Here are a few simple ways to get started:
👉 Have a 12 oz. glass of water before each meal.
👉 Get to sleep 15 minutes earlier
👉 Read a physical book instead of scrolling on your phone or iPad before bed
👉 Add a second veggie to your plate at lunch and dinner
👉 Add 3 minutes of mindful breathing into your morning routine
