Every single day, our minds are filled with thoughts that shape our reality. These thoughts, often deeply ingrained within us, dictate our actions and determine the quality of our lives!

But here's the secret: you have the power to change those thought patterns, and I am here to guide you on that transformative journey as your life coach.

Think about it: so many of our thoughts occur automatically, without our conscious awareness. They become habitual, running on repeat in our minds like a broken record. But what if we could break free from the limitations of negative thought patterns and embrace a more positive and empowering mindset? (Remember this from chapters 4 and 5 from my book?)

The first step is to bring awareness to your thoughts. Like turning on a light in a dark room, shining the light of consciousness on your thoughts allows them to lose their grip on you.

When you observe your thoughts without judgment, you reclaim your power and diminish their influence over you.

Are your thoughts predominantly positive or negative? Until you start paying attention, you won't truly know.

This is where practices like yoga and meditation come into play. They encourage you to become the observer of your thoughts, to witness them without getting entangled in their web. By observing our thoughts, we gain insight into whether they serve us or hinder us.

But here's the crucial point: noticing negative thoughts is not an invitation to beat ourselves up. It's an opportunity for growth and transformation. Thoughts lose their power when we consciously choose not to identify with them or believe in their truth. In fact, most of the negative thoughts we encounter are baseless fabrications of our mind! Some of these thoughts are based on partial truths and some are taken from another voice we have heard in the past. Many of those negative thoughts we have adopted as TRUTH are simply a conclusion we have drawn about something.

For example: if your kids are having a hard time with something, your mind might tell you that you are a terrible mother. When the real TRUTH might be that you have done your best and your kids will encounter hard times because this is life! And it has absolutely nothing to do with your status as a mother. Do you see?

Remember, you have the power of choice. As you think, you choose whether to act upon those thoughts or let them pass like clouds in the sky. This realization holds immense potential for your personal empowerment and transformation.

Why does paying attention to our thoughts matter? Well, research has shown that negative thinking is linked to a range of mental health issues, such as anxiety, stress, depression, obsessive thinking, chronic worry, and even obsessive-compulsive disorder. By changing our thought patterns, we can free ourselves from the grip of these debilitating conditions.

But here's the truly remarkable part: we have the ability to rewire our brains and change our very DNA through our thoughts! Dr. Caroline Leaf, a renowned expert in neuroscience, explains how our thinking can restructure our brains. This phenomenon is known as neuroplasticity—the brain's incredible capacity to change and adapt.

Isn't it exciting to realize that we can reshape our brains? Often, it can feel like we're trapped in negative cycles or that medication is the only answer. While seeking professional guidance is crucial, understanding our ability to transform our thoughts and restructure our brains is empowering.

Moreover, changing our thoughts and reactions has a profound impact on our physical well-being. Stress, often fueled by negative thinking, is a leading cause of numerous diseases and health problems. Dr. Leaf identifies two types of stress: the "good stress" that keeps us alert and focused, and the harmful stress resulting from toxic thinking.

Research supports the connection between stress and health problems, with an astonishing 75-98 percent of illnesses being stress-related. By changing our thoughts, we can alleviate stress and enhance our overall well-being.

So, how can you change your thoughts? It begins with noticing them. You can't transform something you're not aware of. Take a moment to practice quiet meditation, allowing yourself to observe your thoughts in a non-judgmental manner. Regular meditation practice offers a multitude of benefits that I can delve into in another discussion. (Hint: it’s not about erasing your thoughts…And if you want to get started with an amazing program designed to teach you how to incorporate this life-changing practice, click here.)

Once you become aware of your thoughts, the next step is to question their validity. Is this thought really true? By challenging the accuracy of your thoughts, you open the door to new possibilities.

After questioning the truth of your thoughts, you have the power to choose whether or not to believe them. Remember, belief is a choice. You are not obligated to accept every thought that enters your mind as an absolute truth. Often, when we scrutinize our thoughts, we realize the absurdity or negativity they contain. It's liberating to laugh at the antics of our own minds and reject the power they try to exert over us! My mind says some crazy stuff! Does yours?

Now, armed with awareness and a discerning mind, you can begin the process of changing the narrative within your head. Replace negative self-talk with positive and empowering affirmations. Find a supportive and compassionate voice that uplifts you, encourages you, and reminds you of your inherent worth and potential.

But it doesn't stop there. Cultivating gratitude is another powerful tool in rewiring your brain. Take a few moments each day to write down or speak aloud the things you are grateful for. This simple practice shifts your focus from what's lacking to what's abundant in your life. And guess what? It actually changes your brain structure, enhancing your overall well-being.

There is so much more to explore and discuss on this subject. The key is to remember that you matter. Your thoughts matter. Your life matters. It's time to break free from the confines of negative thought patterns and live the life you were designed to live—a life filled with joy, purpose, and unlimited possibilities.

As a life coach, I am here to guide and support you on this transformative journey. Together, we will navigate the realms of thought, uncover the patterns that no longer serve you, and unleash your true potential. You have the power within you to change your thoughts and change your life.
